Dawn Markell

Dawn has enjoyed teaching and coaching for the last 16 years. Currently,
she is an instructor at Mt. Hood Community College where she teaches courses
in Health, Fitness/Conditioning, Nutrition, as well as Fitness and Beginning swim classes.
She feels lucky to have also coached the Mt. Hood Masters for the past two years.

Dawn began swimming competitively at the age of six with Eastmont Aquanauts
before transitioning to the Mt Hood Swim Team. During high school she stayed busy
with water polo and track in addition to swimming. She also taught swim lessons and
coached swimmers of all ages (team and private) throughout high school and college.

She earned both a BS from Oregon State University in Exercise and Sport Sciences with
a minor in Health and Nutrition, and an MA in Physical Education with a specialization in
Motor Learning. Dawn also learned athletic training techniques and personal training with
a focus on strength and conditioning (recently earning a Personal Training Certification).
After moving back to Gresham, Dawn taught in the Reynolds School District and coached
Swimming and Water Polo at Centennial High School for three years.

When away from the pool Dawn enjoys camping, hiking, and most any water sport with
her husband Adam, her kids Kasey (5) and Hayden (1), and their dog Aumie.
